The Bystanders
Békés megye

The "KÖZBELÉPŐ activist group" (The Bystanders) is fighting to make nightlife safe for everyone. The group works with venues and festival organisers to reduce violence against women and make community spaces safer. They want to create an environment where harassment is not tolerated, where members of the public look out for each other and help, if someone is in a dangerous situation.

Timely intervention can prevent victimization, and attention also has a deterrent effect. The group promotes sharing experiences and helps witnesses of harassment in public places to feel confident to take action when needed. The group considers it important to actively shape the public discourse through its work, to criticize commonly accepted oppressive norms and to contribute to dismantling the culture of victim-blaming.

Through this initiative, the KÖZBELÉPŐ activist group aims to make a long-term contribution to creating a harassment-free culture and reducing discrimination and violence against women.
