The 'Free Spirit' project aims to raise awareness of the deterioration of mental health among young people and reduce the stigma of mental illness. The project will involve young people from the Ferencváros (Budapest) making short films on the topic of mental health. The aim of the process is to break down taboos around mental health problems, to create opportunities for participants to share their experiences, which will strengthen support and acceptance within the community, and to use artistic means to express their feelings and thoughts on the topic, which will make their message more communicable.
Short films will be produced and distributed to raise awareness among the general public. The short films will be shown during a day of action and will also be disseminated via Internet channels to organisations and institutions working with young people.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the problem in the wider society and to be a starting point for dialogue in communities.
The project will strengthen social empathy and reduce the stigmatisation of people with mental health challenges by starting a public dialogue. The long-term aim of the project is to create a lasting and inspiring toolkit of films and related events that can be used by other communities, institutions and educators in their work on mental health awareness-raising.
