Flowers against violence

Facing the Past for the Future Foundation
Budapest

The Confrontation Foundation implements an inclusive community-building, self-development and self-help networking experiment to dismantle prejudice, in order to increase the effectiveness, reach and sustainability of its nine-year Project Krókusz - Flowers Against Violence programme, which involves over 100 educators and thousands of students every year.

It connects effective NGOs with participants from six regions (committed, resource-poor educators from many different types of schools) using modern pedagogy and facilitation in a participatory training, self-training and dissemination programme that responds to their needs and situations.

It sensitises through facilitation and experiential pedagogy methods. The participants themselves will develop and test in integrated groups a peer support mentoring programme to help them develop themselves and their students to overcome their prejudices. They will disseminate their results to others in their institutions, in teacher training and in the future regional centres that will be set up to generate online and offline dialogue. The resulting trust between teachers and their students can lay the foundations for awareness-raising, increase the demand for non-judgemental cooperation among more and more students and their communities, and reduce and manage prejudice-based violence.

As their programmes develop, they can increase their network of contacts, acquire new tools and methods, fund their staff to ensure their security, and do more to promote and protect European values.
