CERV-F3-2024-1034
Trade Union of Hungarian Social Workers
Pest megye

In the year 2025, the Social Workers' Union would like to set up three new grassroots organisations, preferably in a rural social institution, under the leadership of their former partner, the trade union organiser delegated by COZZ.
The aim is to enable workers in these grassroots organisations to exercise their basic right to organise, so that they can collectively assert their interests and fight for decent material and moral dignity in a sector that is severely underpaid and rife with employer abuse.

The direct target group of the project are the workers' collectives of 3 mainly rural social institutions, where they want to set up a basic union(s) with a total of 50-80 new union members. The wage agreements and/or collective agreements negotiated will cover approximately 130 workers.

During the first two months of the project, the organiser will carry out field research on the target institutions to be organised. Then, from March to October, it will provide training and mentoring to help set up the basic unions in the selected institutions and prepare them to negotiate with their owners and to exert collective pressure on workers. At the end of the year, from mid-October to January, a communication success campaign will take the message of organising to their indirect target group of 90,000 social sector workers through online and offline platforms.

By communicating the results, they aim to inspire further examples of self-organisation in the social sector. Their long-term goal is to improve working conditions in the sector and thus the quality of care.
