The organization of the decades-old Budapest Pride became uncertain in 2025, as the Hungarian government sought to prevent the event from taking place through legal measures, with participants facing potential fines. In response, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee worked to help people exercise their fundamental freedoms—specifically the right to assembly—encouraging them to confidently participate in public life.
As part of the "Be there now – we are here for you" campaign, the Committee prepared informational materials, answered questions from Reddit users through an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session, and conducted an interview with one of the organizers of the Tbilisi Pride in Georgia to discuss the parallels with Hungary and the lessons learned there. Their messages ultimately reached nearly 1 million people.
In the end, the authorities did not fine the participants of the Pride march, and the campaign successfully contributed to raising awareness of people's rights and mobilizing those committed to defending civil liberties.
