The initiative helps develop the skills and abilities of Roma women living in segregated neighbourhoods in North-eastern Hungary, in order to improve their social status, find jobs, make their voices heard and assert their interests in a more equal environment, both in their family relationships – especially in their marriages – and in the majority society, by setting up regular women's circles.
New community groups are formed in 3 municipalities to pass on the knowledge and experience gained during the project with regular face-to-face meetings, workshops, programs and lectures to support the development of a broader dialogue and strengthen cooperation between Roma and non-Roma populations. The groups can potentially become registered associations by the end of the project, working in a network and building relationships with each other, while Somnakuno Drom acts as an umbrella organisation to support their work.
The programme ends with a conference presenting the results, making the knowledge gained during implementation available to other CSOs, municipalities and institutions.
