Schools often have a negative attitude towards Roma children and their parents. The institutions do not take into account, and sometimes even exploit, their lack of information and weak advocacy skills.

The initiative therefore focuses on human dignity, equality, the right to education and children's rights, so that disadvantaged children and parents can recognise the violations they face and use formal means of redress.

The participants are parents of low social status from the Béketelep district of Eger and from disadvantaged small villages, as well as children and young people, who will use the project to explore the operating practices of schools and the instruments of informal selection, to raise awareness about the violations of principles and rights, and to contribute to a more equal playing field. Through the process of learning together, marginalised communities will strengthen their social inclusion, learn to use formal advocacy tools and acquire knowledge and skills that can be used elsewhere.

However, the project also has an impact on schools, the public and the communities of participants. The effectiveness of the project is demonstrated when participants become role models in their own communities, pass on the knowledge they have acquired, increase the number of people who understand, practice and represent these values and rights, and take action against their absence and violations. So too, if attitudes and practices of schools and other institutions change in a positive way, their relations with members of marginalised communities become more balanced and equal.
