A fundamental right of passengers living with disability that should also be able to lead an active life and have the social mobility they deserve. To achieve this a strong alliance of organisations of disabled people and local groups which are active in public life and in solidarity with them in Pest County is to be created to guarantee public control of the ongoing transport infrastructure projects in the greater metropolitan area around Budapest. Building on the successful advocacy for the full accessibility of Metro Line 3, interest and social pressure should be maintained in order to achieve the complete integration of two urban train lines.
The initiative starts with a survey of participatory action, and on the basis of the results a coalition campaign is organised with events, street actions and a thematic conference involving decision-makers. Reaching a wider audience is supported by interviews, an 'action week' with a variety of activities, and films featuring the stories of those involved. The civil partnerships that emerge from the initiative could also create a "movement infrastructure" to help improve the conditions for equal access in public transport in the long term.
